STAGGERED RIBS SLEEP SACK AND CAP

      
Thank you Virginia for testing this pattern.

SIZE: 
21 inch circumference by 18 inch length

MATERIALS:          
Worsted weight yarn approximately 6 ounces (sleep sack and cap)
US size 10.5 (6.5 mm) 16 inch circular knitting needle
US I (5.5 mm) crochet hook
Tapestry needle
Marker

GAUGE:
Approximately 16 sts = 4 inches

NOTES:
  1. Sleep sack in photo was knit using Caron Persimmon
 INSTRUCTIONS:
Cast on 80 sts using a stretchy cast on. 

Place marker and begin working in the round.

Rounds 1-6:  *K2, p2.  Repeat from * around.

Round 7:  K

Round 8:  P



Rounds 9-10: *k2, p2.  Repeat from * around.


Round 11:  K


Round 12: P



Rounds 13-14:  *P2, k2.  Repeat from * around.


Repeat rounds 7-14 until sleep sack measures about 16 inches from cast on edge, ending with round 8 or 12.

Next round:  *K8, yo, k2tog.  Repeat from * around.  (8 yo)

Next round:  Knit.

Next 6 rounds:  K1, p1.  Repeat around.

Next round: Knit.
Bind off knitwise.

DRAWSTRING:
Leaving a 5 inch tail, using an I hook chain 90.  Slipstitch in the back bump of the 2nd chain from hook and each remaining chain.  Fasten off leaving a 5 inch tail. 

Cut two 10 inch lengths of yarn, fold in half, pull loop through the end of the drawstring with the tails.  Pull all the ends through the loop and pull tight forming a tassel.

Cut three 10 inch lengths of yarn, fold in half, pull loops through the opposite end of the drawstring and pull tight.
Weave drawstring in and out of the eyelets.  Pull to close and tie bow.

STAGGERED RIBS CAP
  

SIZE:  12-15 inches

MATERIALS:          
Worsted weight yarn approximately 1 ounce cap only
US size 10.5 (6.5 mm) 16 inch circular knitting needle
US size 10.5 (6.5 mm) double point needles
Tapestry needle
Marker

GAUGE:
Approximately 16 sts = 4 inches

INSTRUCTIONS: 

With 16 inch needle, cast on 48 sts. Join and work in the round.


Place marker to denote beginning of round.

Rounds 1-5:  K1, p1.  Repeat around.  (48 sts)
Round 6:  K

Round 7:  P



Rounds 8-9: *k2, p2.  Repeat from * around.


Round 10:  K


Round 11: P



Rounds 12-13:  *P2, k2.  Repeat from * around.



Repeat rounds 6-13 until cap measures about 5 inches from cast on edge, ending with round 7 or 11.

 

Next round: *K 6, k2tog.  Repeat from * around.  (42 sts)

Next round:  *K 5, k2tog.  Repeat from * around.  (36 sts)

Next round:  *K 4, k2tog.  Repeat from * around.  (30 sts)

Next round:  *K 3, k2tog.  Repeat from * around.  (24 sts)

Next round: *K 2, k2tog.  Repeat from * around.  (18 sts)

Next round:  *K 1, k2tog.  Repeat from * around.  (12 sts)

Next round:  *K2tog.  Repeat from * around.  (6 sts)

Finish in either of these two ways:

1.  Use tapestry needle to run yarn tail through the stitches and pull to close. 

Weave in ends. 

2.  Optional I Cord Knot, start I Cord, k2, k2tog, k 2 for the first row only.

Knit 5 or 6 inch I Cord with the remaining 5 stitches.

Cut yarn leaving a 6 inch tail.

Use tapestry needle to run yarn tail through the stitches and pull to close.  Now run yarn down the center of the I Cord.

Tie I Cord in a knot.

Weave in ends.
