DECEMBER SCARF - TEAR DROPS (c)

December has been a difficult month for me, so I'm late getting this month's scarf posted. I hope you enjoy it. To make the scarf wider work rows 2 and 3 more times.



DECEMBER SCARF TEAR DROPS (c)



MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn in two coordinating colors
(I used Red Heart Real Teal and Red Heart Spectrum Print)
J (6.0 mm) and I (5.5 mm) crochet hooks

GAUGE:
12 stitches = 4 inches

SIZE: Approximately 7 X 54 plus fringe

SPECIAL STITCHES:
Long double crochet (long dc):
Yo, insert hook in row below working row, pull up long loop even with previous stitch, (yo, pull through 2 loops on hook) 2 times

Long single crochet (long sc): Insert hook in row below working row, pull up long loop even with previous stitch, yo over and pull through both loops.

INSTRUCTIONS:

With J hook ch 148.

Remainder of scarf is worked with I hook.

Row 1: (right side) Sc in second ch from hook and in next 3 ch, *ch 1, skip next ch, sc in next 5 ch. Repeat from * across to last 5 ch, ch 1, skip next ch, sc in last 4 ch. Fasten off, leaving a tail long enough for fringe. (138 sc and 27 ch 1 spaces)

Row 2: (wrong side) Turn. Join second color with slipstitch in first st. Ch 3 (counts as hdc and ch 1), skip next st, dc in next 2 st, work long dc in next st, dc in next 2 st, *ch 1, skip next st, dc in next 2 st, work long dc in next st, dc in next 2 st. Repeat from * across to last 2 st, ch 1, skip next st, hdc in last st. Fasten off

Row 3: (right side) Join first color with sip stitch in first hdc. Ch 2, long dc in next st, *dc in next 2 dc, ch 1, skip next long dc, dc in next 2 dc, work long dc. Repeat from * across to last hdc, hdc in last hdc. Fasten off.

Rows 4-12: Repeat rows 2 and 3.

Row 13: (right side) Join first color with a sc in first st. *long sc in next st, sc in 5 st. Repeat from * across to last 2 st, long sc in next st, sc in last st. Fasten off.

FRINGE:
Cut about 40 pieces of yarn 15 inches long. Fold each piece in half and pull through the narrow end of scarf. Pull the ends of the piece through the loop. Incorporate the tails from the rows into the fringe. Repeat on the opposite end. Trim fringe evenly.

Thank you for sharing all of your wonderful patterns. Just wondering. I noticed you give your scarves, items. Like, January scarf, februrary scarf etc...

Is this random or do you make sure to make a scarf everymonth. Just curious.

In 2007 I posted a scarf pattern each month. 2008 I posted a bag each month. 2009 I've been posting a hat a month. 2010 is yet to be decided, but I'm thinking about doing hats again.
