MY BASKETWEAVE BAG

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn
3 oz for bag and small amounts of green, yellow and color of your choice for flower
CD for base of bag
H (5.0mm) crochet hook
Yarn needle for weaving ends

GAUGE: 4 dc = 1 inch

SIZE: 6 inches in diameter and 8 inches tall
INSTRUCTIONS:

INSIDE BASE:
Round 1:
Ch 3, (do not count as first dc) 12 dc in the 3rd ch from hook. Join with a slipstitch in first dc. (12 sts)
Round 2: Ch 2 (do not count as first dc from now on), 2 dc in each st. Join with a slipstitch in first dc. (24 sts)
Round 3: Ch 2, (dc in 1 st, 2 dc in next st) repeat around. Join with a slipstitch in first dc. (36 sts)
Round 4: Ch 2, (dc in 2 sts, 2 dc in next st) repeat around. Join with a slipstitch in first dc. (48 sts)
Fasten off, weave ends into back of work.

OUTSIDE BASE:
Round 1-4: Repeat rounds 1 - 4 of inside base but DO NOT fasten off. Ch1.
Round 5: Put both pieces together, wrong sides facing each other. Working through both layers, insert hook through same st as slipstitch and through any sc on the other layer. Work a sc in each st around. Insert CD before closing. Join with a slipstitch in first sc. (48 sts)
Round 6: Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), dc in each st. Join with a slipstitch around first dc as if to front post. (48 sts)
Round 7: Ch 3, fpdc around 2 sts, [bpdc around 3 sts, fpdc around 3 sts] repeat around, ending with bpdc in last 3 sts. Join with a slipstitch around ch 3 as if to front post. (48 sts)
Round 8: Ch 3, fpdc around 2 sts, [bpdc around 3 sts, fpdc around 3 sts] repeat around, ending with bpdc in last 3 sts. Join with a slipstitch around ch 3 as if to back post. (48 sts)
Round 9: Ch 3, bpdc around 2 sts, [fpdc around 3 sts, bpdc around 3 sts] repeat around, ending with fpdc in last 3 sts. Join with a slipstitch around ch 3 as if to back post. (48 sts)

Round 20: Ch 3, fpdc around 2 sts, [bpdc around 3 sts, fpdc around 3 sts] repeat around, ending with bpdc in last 3 sts. Join with a slipstitch around ch 3 as if to back post. (48 sts)
Round 21(eyelet round): Ch 4, [skip 1 st, dc in next st, ch 1] repeat around, ending with slipstitch in third chain of ch 4.
Round 22: Ch 1, sc in same stitch as join, *ch 2, sc in next dc*, repeat around. Join with a slipstitch in first sc. (48 sts) Fasten off and weave in ends.

DRAWSTRINGS: Make 2
Ch 76, slipstitch in 2nd chain from hook and each remaining chain. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Weave drawstrings in and out of eyelet round starting on opposite sides. Tie the ends of drawstrings in an overhand knot about ½ inch from the ends.


FLOWERS AND LEAVES: Make any number of flowers and leaves that pleases you.

SIMPLE FLOWER:
Round 1:
Ch 3, in 3rd ch from hook 1 dc, ch 2, slipstitch, (ch 2, 1 dc, ch 2, slipstitch) 4 times. (5 petals).
Round 2: Working in back of round 1, ch 1 (slipstitch under back bars of dc, ch 2) repeat around. Join with slipstitch in first ch 2 loop. (5 loops)
Round 3: Ch 2, 3 dc, ch 2, slipstitch in first ch 2 loop. (slipstitch, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 2, slipstitch) 4 times. (5 petals)
Round 4: Working in back of round 3, ch 1 (slipstitch under back bars of second dc, ch 3) repeat around. Join with slipstitch in first ch 3 loop. (5 loops)
Round 5: Ch 2, 4 dc, ch 2, slipstitch in first ch 3 loop, (slipstitch, ch 2, 4 dc, ch 2, slipstitch) in each loop around. (5 petals)
Fasten off.

FLOWER CENTER:
Ch 2, 3 sc in in 2nd ch from hook, slipstitch in first sc.

Sew flower center to center of flower.

LEAF LARGE:
Ch 9, slipstitch in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in each of last 5 ch, ch 3, slipstitch in same ch as last dc, working on opposite side ch 3, dc in same ch and next 4 ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, slipstitch in last ch. Fasten off leaving an 8 inch tail for sewing to bag.

LEAF MEDIUM:
Ch 7, slipstitch in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in each of last 3 ch, ch 3, slipstitch in same ch as last dc, working on opposite side ch 3, dc in same ch and next 2 ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, slipstitch in last ch. Fasten off leaving an 8 inch tail for sewing to bag.

LEAF SMALL:
Ch 5, slipstitch in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in last ch, ch 3, slipstitch in same ch as last dc, working on opposite side ch 3, dc in same ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, slipstitch in last ch. Fasten off leaving an 8 inch tail for sewing to bag.

FINISHING:
Sew flowers and leaves to bag.

MY FEBRUARY SCARF


SIZE: 7 X 60 inches

MATERIALS:
F hook
Sports weight yarn 5 ounces, 350 yards

GAUGE: Rows 1-13 = 6 inches square

Notes: Turning ch 4 counts as a dc and ch 1 throughout pattern. When working a dc in a space, work around the chain.

Row 1: Ch 30, dc in 6th chain from hook, this counts as first space and two bars. Ch 1, skip 1 ch, dc in next ch, repeat across, ending with dc in last chain. Ch 4, turn. (13 spaces and 14 bars)

Row 2: Dc in top of 2nd dc, *ch 1, sk st, dc in next st* repeat across row. Ch 4, turn. (13 spaces and 14 bars)

Row 3: Dc in top of 2nd dc, [ch 1, sk st, dc in next st] 5 times, [dc in next 2 st], [ch 1, sk st, dc in next st] 6 times. Ch 4, turn. (12 spaces and 15 bars)

Row 4: Dc in top of 2nd dc, [ch 1, sk st, dc in next st] 4 times, [dc in next 6 st], [ch 1, sk st, dc in next st] 5 times. Ch 4, turn. (10 spaces and 17 bars)

Repeat rows 15-27, three times. After the eighth heart end with row 26. DO NOT fasten off.

EDGING:

Round 1: *Ch 1, sc in corner, ch 4, sc in base of each dc down side, 2 sc in corner, ch 3, sc in each dc across end*. Repeat the instructions between * on other side and across end. Working 2 sc in each corner. Finish off without joining in first sc. Use your yarn needle to get a more perfect join.

MY VALENTINE PURSE


MATERIALS:
Worsted Weight Yarn (2.5 ounces of main color and small amount of contrasting color)
Sample is Red Heart Super Saver soft white and cherry.
G hook (4.25mm) or hook needed to get a firm gauge of about 15 sc = 4 inches
3/4 yard of ¼ inch ribbon to match contrasting yarn [optional]
One ¾-1 inch button
6 inches of 1/8 inch ribbon to match contrasting yarn [optional]
Yarn needle for sewing and weaving ends
Needle and thread for sewing on button

SIZE: 6.5 inches X 7.5 inches excluding strap
Size is easily adjusted. For a deeper purse repeat round 21 until an inch less than desired depth. Then proceed with round 22. For wider purse start with a longer chain.

Ch 28

ROUND 1: Make 2 sc in 2nd chain from hook, sc in each chain (25) to last chain, working over yarn tail for remainder of this round, 3 sc in last ch, work in opposite side of starting chain and sc in each of 26 chain stitches. DO NOT join rounds. [56 sc]

ROUND 2: Slipstitch in first sc of round 1 (counts as first sc), sc in each sc around. [56 sc]
ROUNDS 3-21:
Sc in each sc around. [56 sc]

Lay purse flat and mark center two stitches on on upper edge.

ROUND 22: Sc in each sc until first of marked stitches, ch 2, skip two stitches [buttonhole], continue to sc around. [56 sc]

ROUND 23: Sc in each sc around, working sc over the two chain stitches. Ending the last round at the side fold with a slipstitch in that sc. [56 sts]


ROUND 24: Ch 1, sc in same st as slipstitch. *Skip 1 st, 5 dc (shell) in next st* repeat around. Join with slipstitch in first sc. [14 shells]

ROUND 25: Join red yarn with a sc in round 24 join. Sc in each st around, and join in first sc with a slipstitch.

HEART MOTIF

ROUND 1: With red, ch 4, make all stitches in the first chain. 3 trc, 3 dc, ch 1, 1 trc, ch 1, 3 dc, 3 trc, ch 2, slipstitch to join. Fasten off.

ROUND 2: Leaving an 8 inch tail, join soft white yarn with a slipstitch in round 1 join. Ch 3, in first trc make sc and hdc, in next stitch 3 hdc, in next stitch 2 hdc, 1 sc in next four stitches, chain1 dc in trc chain 1, sc in next four stitches, 2 hdc in next stitch, 3 hdc in next stitch, hdc and sc in next stitch, chain 3 and slip stitch in beginning slipstitch. Fasten off leaving an 8 inch tail for sewing heart to purse.

ROUND 3: Join red yarn with a slipstitch in the first ch. *Ch 2, slipstitch in next stitch* repeat around until trc at point. Work slipstitch ch 2, slipstitch in trc. *Ch 2, slipstitch in next stitch* repeat around, ending with slipstitch in final ch, DO NOT join. Fasten off and turn heart over and tie the two red tails together in a tight knot.

Sew heart centered on side of purse opposite the buttonhole.

STRAP:


ROW 1: Leaving an 8 inch tail for sewing, ch 4, dc in first ch, ch 2, 2 dc in same ch. DO NOT chain turn.
ROWS 2-36: Slipstitch in 2 dc, and ch 2 space, ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dc in same space. DO NOT chain turn. Fasten off leaving an 8 inch tail for sewing to purse.

OPTIONAL RIBBON: Weave ribbon in and out of strap. Sew ends of ribbon to ends of strap.

Sew strap to inside of purse.

Sew button to inside opposite the buttonhole.

OPTIONAL RIBBON: Thread 1/8 inch ribbon through button and under yarn of a sc, tie in a knot and trim ends at an angle.

MY JANUARY SCARF



I thought it would be fun to start posting a Scarf of the Month. So this is the first in a series of scarf patterns. Some will be knit and some crocheted. Some will be for warmth and some just for fun.

Knit with bulky or worsted weight yarn and larger than usual needles, this highly textured scarf is of the for warmth variety.

SIZE:
6 inches X 60 inches

MATERIALS:
Yarn: Bulky about 190 yds (Worsted weight to be determined)
Needles: US 11, 8 mm (US 10, 5.75 mm)
Yarn needle

GAUGE:
Bulky 12 sts = 4 inches
Worsted 16 sts = 4 inches
Row gauge unimportant

INSTRUCTIONS:
Instructions are for bulky yarn, worsted weight in (_)

Cast-on 18 (26)stitches
Knit 3 rows

Row 1: *K2, P2* repeat across ending K2
Row 2: *P2, K2* repeat across ending P2
Rows 3-4: Knit across

Repeat rows 1-4 until as long as you like.
Knit 3 rows and bind off.

SASQUATCH BOOTIES


SASQUATCH BOOTIES


Materials:3 ply sports weight yarn
Fun Fur in coordinating color
Size 4 needles
Yarn needle to weave in ends

Instructions:
Cast on 30 stitches with sports weight yarn
Row 1: Holding Fun Fur and sports weight yarn together. Knit 15, place marker, Knit 15 (30)
Row 2: Increase in first stitch (knit in front and back of stitch), knit to first stitch before marker, increase in this stitch: slip marker, increase in next stitch, knit to last stitch, increase in last stitch. (34)
Row 3: Knit across (34)
Row 4: Repeat row 2 (38)
Row 5: Knit across (38)
Row 6: Repeat row 2 (42)
Row 7: Knit across (42)
Rows 8-15: Knit (42)

INSTEP:
Row 1: Knit 24, knit 2 together, turn
Row 2: Slip 1, knit 6, knit 2 together, turn
Repeat Row 2 until there are 10 stitches left on each side. On last row, continue on over the last ten stitches (28 stitches).
Knit 1 more row with a strand of each Fun Fur and sports weight.
Drop Fun Fur and finish remainder of bootie with sports weight only.

EYELET BEADING:
Knit 1, yarn over, knit 2 together; Repeat across row to last stitch. Yarn over, knit 1. (29)

CUFF:Purl 1 row
Knit 1 row
Knit 1 row
Purl 1 row
Knit 1 row
Repeat the last 3 rows (K,P,K) 4 times until there are 3 purl ribs on right side. (15 rows)

Sew up sole and back of booties.

Ties: Make 2.
Chain 50. Running though eyelet row and tie in bow. You can also substitute ribbon for the crocheted tie.
