BLUEBERRIES CAP


It is blueberry season in NW Washington. So how better to celebrate the season than with a Blueberries Cap?

BLUEBERRIES CAP

SIZE: Baby 16 (Youth 18, Woman 20)

GAUGE: 6 sc = 2 inches

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn approximately 2.5, (3, 3.5 ounces)
J (6.00 mm) Crochet hook

NOTES:
1. Read all instruction through before beginning cap.
2. Cap in photo was made with Caron One Pound Midnight
3. Work is all done from the wrong side until the cuff.
4. Only turn when instructions tell you to.
5. Pull slipstitches tight, you want them to almost disappear.


SPECIAL STITCHES:
FPHDC = front post half double crochet
BPHDC = back post half double crochet

INSTRUCTIONS:

ROUND 1: Ch 4, join with slipstitch to form ring. Ch 1, *sc in ring, ch 4, repeat from * 5 times. Slip stitch in first sc. [6 loops]

ROUND 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in same st as join. *2 sc in next sc, repeat from * around. Hold loops to the backside of work on this and each sc round. Slip stitch in first sc. [12 sc]

ROUND 3: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, ch 4, sc in same st. *Ch 4, sc in next sc, ch 4, sc in next sc, ch 4, sc in same st. Repeat from * around. Ch 4, sc in next sc, ch 3, join with a slipstitch in first sc. [18 loops]

ROUND 4: Ch 1, 2 sc in same st as join. *Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, repeat from * around. Sc in next 2 sc, join with a slipstitch in first sc. [24 sc]

Turn over and check out the ”blueberries”. Aren’t they cute? Okay continuing on:

ROUND 5: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, ch 4, sc in same st. *Ch 4 and sc in next sc, 3 times, ch 4, sc in next sc, ch 4, sc in same st. Repeat from * around. Ch 4 and sc in next sc, 3 times. Ch 3, join with a slipstitch in first sc. [30 loops]

ROUND 6: Ch 1, 2 sc in same st as join. *Sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, repeat from * around. Sc in next 4 sc. Join with a slipstitch in first sc. [36 sc]

ROUND 7: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, ch 4, sc in same st. *Ch 4 and sc in next sc, 5 times, ch 4, sc in next sc, ch 4, sc in same st. Repeat from * around. Ch 4 and sc in next sc, 5 times. Ch 3, join with a slipstitch in first sc. [42 loops]

Baby Size - ROUND 8: Ch 1, sc in same stitch. Sc in each sc around. Join with a slipstitch in first sc. [42 sc]

Youth/Woman Size – ROUND 8: Ch 1, 2 sc in same st as join. *Sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc, repeat from * around. Sc in next 6 sc. Join with a slipstitch in first sc. [48 sc]

Baby/Youth Size - ROUND 9: Ch 1, sc in same stitch. *Ch 4, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Ch 3, slip stitch in first sc. [42 (48) loops]

Woman Size – ROUND 9: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, ch 4, sc in same st. *Ch 4 and sc in next sc, 7 times, ch 4, sc in next sc, ch 4, sc in same st. Repeat from * around. Ch 4 and sc in next sc, 7 times. Ch 3, join with a slipstitch in first sc. [54 loops]

All Sizes - ROUND 10: Ch 1, sc in same stitch as join. Sc in each sc around. Join with a slip stitch in first sc. [42 (48, 54) sc]

All Sizes - ROUND 11: Ch 1, sc in same stitch as join. *Ch 4, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Ch 3, join with a slipstitch in first sc. [42 (48, 54) loops]

Repeat rounds 10 and 11 until you have a total of 20 (22, 24) rounds, ending with round 10.

Fasten off.

CUFF:


ROUND 1: Ch 2, turn, hdc in each st around. Join with a slipstitch, as if to front post, around the beginning ch 2. [42 (48, 54 hdc)

If some how you don’t end up with 48 hdc (including the beginning ch 2) this is where you can fudge it. Instead of making a slipstitch around the beginning chain 2, slipstitch around the first true hdc.

ROUND 2:
Ch 2, *BPHDC around next hdc, FPHDC around next hdc. Repeat from * around. Join with a slipstitch, as if to front post, around the beginning ch 2. DO NOT turn.

ROUNDS 3-4: Ch 2, *BPHDC around the BPHDC, FPHDC around the FPHDC. Repeat from * around. Join with a slipstitch, as if to front post, around the beginning ch 2.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

What a cute cap. And I have great memories of taking my kids and their friends to the 'U-pick' blueberry places when we lived in Washington. I miss those fresh tasty berries and the jam... Lucky you!
