SPIRALING PURLS SLEEP SACK AND CAP

Thank you Virginia in WA for testing this pattern.

This is a stitch combination I’ve used on the cuff of socks and caps when my sons were young.  I’ve always like it because it adds a little interest to a project without getting to fancy.

The instructions for this sleep sack look more complicated than they are.  Once you get going on rounds 7-19 you can see where the spiraling purls are worked and the sleep sack shapes up quickly.

SIZE:
21 inch circumference by 18 inch length

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn approximately 6 ounces (sleep sack and cap)
US size 10.5 (6.5 mm) 16 inch circular knitting needle
US I (5.5 mm) crochet hook
Tapestry needle

GAUGE:
Approximately 16 sts = 4 inches

NOTES:
  1. Sleep sack in photo was knit using Caron One Pound in Rose.
INSTRUCTIONS:

Cast on 78 sts using a stretchy cast on.

Place marker and begin working in the round.

Rounds 1-6:  *K1, p1.  Repeat from * around.

Round 7:  *K8, p1, k1, p1, k1, p1.  Repeat from * around.

Round 8:  K7, *p1, k1, p1, k1, p1, k8.  Repeat from * around, end with k1.

Round 9:  K6, *p1, k1, p1,k1, p1, k8.  Repeat from * around, end with k2.
