STAR GARLAND (C)

SIZE:  Each star is approximately 5.25 inches across.  Length depends upon how many stars are in your garland.
MATERIALS:
Small amount of yarn in three colors of your choice
Crochet hook in size appropriate for your yarn

NOTES:
1. Read instructions completely before beginning.
2. For Red Heart Super Saver in Cherry, Blue and Soft White I used a H hook.
3.  When attaching a different color attach with a single crochet.

Round 1: Ch 2, work 5 sc in second chain from hook. Join with a slipstitch in first sc. (5 sc)

Round 2: Ch 1, work 3 sc in each sc. Join with a slipstitch in first sc. (15 sc)

Round 3: Ch 1, *sc in first sc, ch 5, slip st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in last ch, skip 2 sc; rep from * around, end with a slipstitch in first sc. (5 points)

Fasten off first color.

Round 4: With second color attach yarn in base of dc to left of the slipstitch  (There will only be one loop, the unused loop from a ch 5.)  * Sc in 4 sts, in ch 1 at tip of point sc, ch 1, sc), sc in 4 sts down other side of point, work in both loops, skip sc.  Repeat from * around.  Join with a slipstitch in first sc.

Fasten off second color.

Round 5: With third color skip st with the slipstitch. *Sc in 4 sts, in ch 1 (sc, ch 1, sc), sc in 4 sts down other side of point, skip 2 sc.  Repeat from * around.  Join with a slipstitch in first sc.

Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Top Band:
Ch 30, slipstitch in any ch 1 point of any star.  *Ch 20 slipstitch in any ch 1 point of next star.  Repeat from * until all stars are attached.  Ch 30.  Fasten off.

Don’t turn, go back to the first ch and with second color sc in each st across. Fasten off.

Repeat with third color. Fasten off.

Gather the three tails together and tie an overhand knot as close as possible to the band at each end.

CELEBRATION BUNTING

Above bunting is done with the Applied I-Cord band.

Above bunting is done with the Pick-up and Knit band.

Thank you Virginia for testing this pattern.

A fun decoration for holidays.  Imagine in pastels for Easter or a baby shower.  In school colors for graduation or homecoming.  The options are as endless as your imagination.

SIZE:  Approximately 5 inches across by 6 inches long.

MATERIALS:
Small amount of Red Heart Super Saver in your choice of colors.
US size 10.5 (6.5 mm) knitting needles
US size 10/5 circular needle long enough to hold the picked up stitches of the pennants.  I used a 29 inch for 7 pennants with the Pick-up and Knit band.  With the Applied I-Cord band I used my 16 inch circular.
Tapestry needle

NOTES:
  1. Read instructions all the way through before beginning.
  2. Each pennant uses about 1/4 ounce.
  3. I made 7 and 13 pennants, but you can make it as short or long as you like.
  4. The bunting in the photo is Cherry, Blue and Soft White Red Heart    Super Saver.
  5. When choosing which band to use consider:  The Applied I-Cord is completely reversible.  The Pick-Up and Knit band the back side shows a line of the contrasting color.

SPECIAL STITCH:

Rows 26-29:  K. (6 sts)

Row 30:  K1, SSK, K2tog, K1. (4 sts)

Rows 31-34:  K. (4 sts)

Row 35:  SSK, K2tog.  (2 sts)

Row 36:  K2tog.  (1 st)

Fasten off.  Wait to weave in the ends until after you add the band, that way you can use the tails to tighten up any gaps.

BAND:
There are two ways of knitting the band.

The one I like best is the Applied I-Cord border.

The second method is a Pick-Up and Knit garter stitch border.

With the circular needle cast on 16 sts.

Pick up and knit across the top of each pennant.  Keep your beginning tails to the right hand side when you are doing the pick up and knit.

Cast on 16 sts.

Knit 3 rows and bind off.

Fasten off.

Weave in ends.
