LIL PUNKIN SLEEP SACK AND CAP

SIZES:
16 (unstretched) inch circumference by 17 inch length
(17 inch circumference by 19 inch length)
MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn approximately 6 ounces for sleep sack and cap
Small amount of worsted weight yarn (green and brown)
US size 10.5 (6.5 mm) 16 inch circular knitting needle
US size 10.5 (6.5 mm) double point needles for cap
US I (5.5 mm) crochet hook
Tapestry needle
GAUGE:
16 sts = 4 inches
NOTES:
- Sleep sack in photo was knit using Red Heart Super Saver color Pumpkin.
- Directions for a larger sleep sack are in parentheses.
Cast on 80 (88) sts using a stretchy cast on.
Place marker and begin working in the round.
Rounds 1-6: K1, P1. Repeat around.
Round 7: K8 (9), P2. Repeat around.
Repeat round 7 until sleep sack measures about 16 (18) inches from cast on edge.
Next round: *K3 (4), yo, K2tog, K3, P2. Repeat from * around. (8 yo)
Next round: Knit.
Next 6 rounds: K1, P1. Repeat around.
Next round : Knit.
Bind off knitwise. Cut yarn and weave in ends.
DRAWSTRING:
Leaving a 5 inch tail, using an I hook chain 90 (100). Slipstitch in the back bump of the 2nd chain from hook and each remaining chain. Fasten off leaving a 5 inch tail.
Cut two 10 inch lengths of yarn, fold in half, pull loop through the end of the drawstring with the tails. Pull all the ends through the loop and pull tight forming a tassel.
Cut three 10 inch lengths of yarn, fold in half, pull loops through the opposite end of the drawstring and pull tight.
Weave drawstring in and out of the eyelets. Pull to close and tie bow.

With 16 inch needle, cast on 48 (54) sts. Join and work in the round.

Larger size only: *K 3, K2tog, K2, P2. Repeat from * around. (48 sts)
Larger size only: *K6, P2. Repeat from * around. (48 sts)
Next round: *K2, K2tog, K2, P2. Repeat from * around. (42 sts)
Next round: *K2, K2tog, K1, P2. Repeat from * around. (36 sts)
Next round: *K1, K2tog, K1, P2. Repeat from * around. (30 sts)

Next round: *K2, P2tog. Repeat from * around. (18 sts)

Change to brown for stem.
Start I Cord, k2, k2tog, k 2 for the first row only.
Knit 1 to 1.5 inches of I Cord.
LEAF:
With green cast on 3 sts.
Rows 1-2: Knit.
Row 3: K1, M1, K1, M1, K1. (5 sts)
Row 4: K1, M1, K3, M1, K1. (7 sts)
Rows 5-9: Knit. (7 sts)
Row 10: K2tog, K3, K2tog. (5 sts)
Row 11: Knit. (5 sts)
Row 12: K2tog, K1, K2tog. (3 sts)
Row 13: Sl1 as if to knit, k2tog, psso.
Fasten off. Weave in end.
Using starting tail sew leaf to hat at stem (I Cord) base.
