FAN BOOKMARK
This bookmark only takes a small amount of thread and a few minutes to complete. The blocking with vinegar may be a new technique for you. It adds just a bit of stiffness.
SIZE:Large 2.25 by 14 inches
Small 1.75 by 11.5 inches
MATERIALS:Large: Size 3 crochet cotton
Size E (3.5 mm) crochet hook
Small: Size 10 crochet cotton
Size 7 (1.5 mm) steel crochet hook
Both sizes:
Needle with eye large enough for the thread you are using
White vinegar
NOTES:
1. Read instruction all the way through before beginning bookmark.
2. Bookmark may be crocheted from any size thread or yarn with appropriate hook.
INSTRUCTIONS:
TAIL:Ch 60 (70 for size 10 thread), sc in the 10th ch from hook to form ring. *Ch 4, skip 4 chs, sc in next ch. Repeat from * until 5 chains remain, sc in last chain.
Ch 6, slipstitch in same st as last sc, to form loop. Ch 2, turn.
FAN:
ROW 1: 12 dc in loop, hdc in loop. Ch 3 (counts as first hdc and ch 1), turn.
ROW 2: Hdc in first dc. *Ch 1, hdc in next dc. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. (13 hdc)
ROW 3: (Sc, ch 2, sc) in each ch 1 space. (12 - sc, ch 2, sc groups)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
TASSEL:Cut 6 strands of thread about 6 inches long. Fold in half and draw loop through the ring at end of tail with a crochet hook. Draw the loose ends of the strands through the loop and pull them down tightly to form a knot. Trim ends of tassel evenly.
BLOCK:Mix 1 part vinegar with 5 parts water. Wet the bookmark with the vinegar solution. Squeeze out excess and lay on a towel. Shape the heart and tail, allow to dry.

Hi Suzie - what a cute bookmark. Wish I'd seen this before I posted a parcel away the other day which included a book. One of these bookmarks would have made a lovely addition. Will be making a few to keep on hand. Thanks for the pattern.

Sitting in the tv room, and i forgot my scissors from upstairs. So all I hafta do is do the tassel and the finishing.
Good timing, now i've got a gift for my mother-in-law who reads a lot. Gonna make her some mittens, but they might not be done by Saturday.

Well I didn't get a picture, but I just made mine from some black cotton thread I had leftover from some bats. :) size 10 I think...
