MY ADJUSTABLE RIBBED PREEMIE CAP
Cap is worked sideways in half double crochet rib to allow for stretch. The ribbon can start out in the lower row of eyelets and moved up to the top row to grow with the baby.
Materials:
Small amount of sports weight yarn
15 inches of ¼ inch ribbon (optional)
G (4.5MM) crochet hook
Gauge: 9 sc = 2", 5 hdc rows = 2"
Note: Ch 2 at beg of hdc rows does not count as a stitch.
CAP
Ch 22 (24).
Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and in ea ch across (21 (23)sc)
From now on work all rows in the BLO (back loop only).
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in first 2 sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc, sc in next 2 sc, (skipped stitch forms eyelet), ch 1, skip 1 sc, sc in next sc, hdc in next 14 sc (21 (23) sts)
Row 3: Ch 2, turn, hdc in 14 hdc, sc in next 7 sts (21 sts)
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, sc in first 2 sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc, sc in next 2 st, ch1, skip 1, sc in next st, hdc in hdc across (21 (23) sts)
Rows 5-26: Repeat rows 3 and 4.
Joining: Ch 1 and turn, holding beginning row together with last row, slipstitch through both thicknesses to a form tube, (you will be going under three loops one on the back and two on the front).
Cut yarn and fasten off.
Weave in ends.
Finishing:
Weave ribbon or chain about 15 inches and weave through holes formed by eyelets. Gather top of hat, and tie in bow.
