7 HOUR TODDLER SWEATER

Edited 03/13/2010 to add photos of Mari L's handsome grandson in his 7 Hour Toddler Sweater. Thank you for sharing Mari. You can read about sizing and Mari's yarn choice on her blog:

This sweater is yet another adaptation of Gail Bable’s 5 Hour Baby Boy Sweater, which was based on the 5 Hour Baby Sweater originally posted on Knit List. There are several adaptations on Bev’s Country Cottage. Being larger it takes longer to knit, hence the 7 Hour Toddler Sweater..

This one is considerably larger, to fit 12-18 months.

Thank you Virginia in WA for testing this pattern.
SIZE: 12-18 months
Garment measures 25 inches around, would fit about 22 inch

MATERIALS:Approximately 6 ounces worsted weight yarn (I used Red Heart Super Saver)
1 ¾ inch button
Size US 10 (6.0 mm)
Stitch holders or waste yarn
Markers
Tapestry needle

GAUGE: Approximately 4 sts to 1 inch
NOTES:1. Read instructions all the way through before beginning.
2. I used a 29 inch circular needle.
3. I used waste yarn rather than stitch holders.
4. There isn’t enough yarn in a multicolor Red Heart Super Saver, so either choose a solid color or buy two of the multicolor.

Comments:
I just copied this pattern and the "Blueberries" hat pattern. I am so looking forward to seeing these completed. They look great in the photos, though it would be nice to see the hat modeled on someone.
Thanks for your generosity in sharing your patterns!
Carolyne

Yes, it would be nice.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
I love the 5 hour sweater and knew that it sould be upsized but didn't feel up to figuring it out myself. Thank you so much. I will be making probably several of these for my almost one year old.

Thank you so much for nice and easy patterns. Hopeing to get back into Knitting and Crochet. Thanks Again for sharing your patterns. Lois Jean

I just finished my sweater... its too cute. Thank you....

I have made the sweaters and vests for twin granddaughters. I love the patterns. The girls are now 3 and I would love to have the pattern enlarged to fit a 3T-6. I am only a beginner knitter and have no idea how to adjust a pattern.

IHave you thought of making a larger size? Thank you

Bette

Some members of my Yahoo Group made it for an older child just by lengthening the sleeves and body. Seems kids grow mostly up not out between 2 and 6.

did anyone find the neck a bit tight? also, does anyone know of a matching hat?

There are several variations of the 5 Hour sweater matching caps online. This one is a match:

Please explain how to "slip stitch" sleeve together. Do you mean to use a crochet hook?

I'm at this point in the pattern.
Thank you.
Marie

Yes, slip stitch with a crochet hook.

Thank you Suzetta. I appreciate your quick response. I can now go forward.

Marie

Trying to understand the M1 instruction( row 30.) Can you describe what to do?

You can follow the M1 instructions under special stitches or how ever you like to make one.

love this pattern my grand son is only 9 month but he will grow into it .

Loved the sweater made it for my grandson he is only nine month only nine months but big for his age he will grow into it .

Little boys grow so fast it will fit before you know it.

I made this for my grandson and added a hood it came out great but he will have to grow into it. I have started a second one for him in fall colors.

Hi

This is a wonderful pattern - thank you very much. Could you please tell me what ply wool you are using?

Maria

I mostly use Red Heart Super Saver and it is 4 ply.

This has been the best thing I have ever made - looks wonderful finished. I would really love to be able to knit it in a bigger size. Does anyone have pattern for bigger size please?
Thanks so much. Maria

How much bigger?

You can go bigger by knitting the body and sleeves longer.

Another thing you can do is use a heavier yarn and larger needle.

Like Marie, trying to visualize M1stitch. Which stitch am I knitting in the front and back? The loop over one or the increase stitch? Thank you for sharing, I am eager to finish this for my grand daughter.

https://www.lionbrand.com/faq/77.html

I use this method for M1 (make one).

I would love to know how to increase to a size 4 or 6. Any suggestions?

Sorry, but I haven't worked out a bigger size.

I started the "7 Hour Toddler Sweater" and got to the place to put the markers for the front, sleeves, etc. and realize that there were only 121 stitches NOT 141. I looked to see where I made a mistake and cannot see where the extra 20 stitches were added. Am I missing something?

You must not have done the M1 (make 1) stitches on row 30.

Button hole rows? Only see 1 mentioned?

One is all I did, as shown in the pictures. You can always add more if you want.

What does CO 2 sts mean?

Cast On 2 stitches

Thanks. That's what I thought. Just wanted to be sure

Love this pattern, but I am struggling with the first sleeve. Namely the instructions that say

“Bind off leaving last stitch on needle. With right sides together slip stitch sleeve closed being careful to close up all holes at the underarm. Place last stitch on left hand needle.”

I have always cut the thread after bind off and started new thread. Is there a link that you can direct me to to so I can better understand. I used a crochet needle to help with the slip stitch but that still leaves working thread running up through the sleeve.

I am sure I must be overthinking this. Thank you

You should be working from the cuff back up to the body.

When doing the increases and make 1 what is the reason that you do a make 1. I didn’t notice it in the smaller patterns so could you do something different or not do at all. Thank you.

Many people have knit it using these instructions, so I feel comfortable with them. I guess you could try some other way and see how it turns out for you. One thing about knitting is it's easy to fudge it.

Is the make 1 simply knit front and back?

I like this M1:
http://www.lionbrand.com/how-to-knit-increasing-between

I found that that's why I don't do the button hole row

I’m stuck on row 30 - I seem to be 19 stitches short and yet I’m starting with the right amount of stitches?!

M1 is make 1. Sounds like you didn't do those.

Hi im stuck at the the section after row 35 it got is far as knit 25 put on holder but after that im confused.

That is where you start the sleeve. You cast on 2 on a new needle, k 30 sts and cast on 2 more. The 2 before and after the 30 are the underarm.

Hi do i used a new yarn to cast on or the same yarn i was using

Use same yarn.

Hi is there a video demo on this pattern

No video!

Hi is the a hat pattern

I don't have a matching hat on my blog.

Can you tell me approximate length from underarm to the bottom of sweater when finished?

t can be knit as long as you like. I haven't knit one in many years so do know that answer.
