Worsted weight yarn, less than .5 ounces
I (5.5 mm) crochet hook
Ouchless (no metal) ponytail elastic, 1.25 (1.5) inch diameter
Tapestry needle

1. Read instructions all the way though before beginning.
2. If you want to use the longer elastic sc the number of stitches to cover the elastic, don’t stretch the elastic as you work over it.
3. Photo is made with Red Heart Super Saver.
4. I’ve also made this scrunchie with chunky yarn and a J (6.0 mm) hook.
5. See Photo 1, for placement of hook to crochet in the side of the sc.

Round 1:
Attach yarn around elastic with a sc. *Ch 8, slipstitch in the side of the sc, ch 8, sc around elastic. Repeat from * around. You want to fill the elastic, but not stretch it. End with ch 8, DO NOT join. Fasten off. Use your tapestry needle to join in the first sc.

With beginning and ending tails tie a tight knot. Rather than weave in the ends, put a drop of glue on the knot. After the glue dries trim the ends about ¼ inch away from knot. Or if you really want to, weave in the ends.
