ACCORDION SLEEP SACK AND CAP
SIZES: Approximately 22 inch circumference by 18 inch length (24 inch by 20 inch)
MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn approximately 6 ounces (8 ounces)
US size 10.5 (6.5 mm) 16 inch circular knitting needle
US size 10.5 (6.5 mm)double point needles for cap
US I (5.5 mm) crochet hook
Tapestry needle
GAUGE:
16 sts = 4 inches
NOTES:
- Sleep sack in photo was knit using Caron One Pound in Sage.
- Directions for a larger sleep sack are in parentheses.
- If you don’t want to use the picot cast on cast on in any stretchy cast on, then proceed with instructions.
SPECIAL STITCHES:
Picot Cast On: Make a slip-knot and place it on your left needle. Knit a st into the slipknot, leaving the slipknot on the needle. Place the new st onto left needle by inserting the left needle into the front of the new st. Continue in this way to CO 5 sts, then bind off 2 st, transfer st from right needle to left. Continue to CO 5 sts and bind off 2 until desired number of stitches are on the needle.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Cast on 80 (88) sts using picot cast on.
Place marker and begin working in the round.
Round 1: Knit
Round 2-6: K1, P1. Repeat around.
Rounds 7-11: Purl.
Rounds 12-16: Knit.
Repeat rounds 7-16 until you have 7 (8) purl sets.
Sleep sack should measure about 16 (18) inches from cast on edge. Stretch slightly to measure.
Next 5 rounds: Knit.
You will have 10 knit rounds at this point.
Next round: *K 8 (9), yo, k2tog. Repeat from * around. (8 yo)
Next round: Knit.
Next 5 rounds: K1, P1. Repeat around.
Next round : Knit.
Bind off knitwise. Cut yarn and weave in ends.
DRAWSTRING:
Leaving a 5 inch tail, using an I hook chain 90 (100). Slipstitch in the back bump of the 2nd chain from hook and each remaining chain. Fasten off leaving a 5 inch tail.
Cut two 10 inch lengths of yarn, fold in half, pull loop through the end of the drawstring with the tails. Pull all the ends through the loop and pull tight forming a tassel.
Cut three 10 inch lengths of yarn, fold in half, pull loops through the opposite end of the drawstring and pull tight.
Weave drawstring in and out of the eyelets. Pull to close and tie bow.

INSTRUCTIONS:
With 16 inch needle, picot cast on 48 (54) sts. Join and work in the round.
With 16 inch needle, picot cast on 48 (54) sts. Join and work in the round.
Place marker to denote beginning of round.
Round 1: Knit. (48 sts)
Rounds 2-5: K1, P1. Repeat around. (48, 54 sts)
Round 6: Knit.
Rounds 7-10: Purl.
Rounds 11-14: Knit.
Rounds 15-18: Purl.
Rounds 19-22: Knit.
Rounds 23-26: Purl.
Rounds 27-29: Knit.
Larger size only: *K 7, k2tog. Repeat from * around. (48 sts)
Larger size only: Knit.
Round 30: *K 6, k2tog. Repeat from * around. (42 sts)
Round 31: *K 5, k2tog. Repeat from * around. (36 sts)
Round 32: *K 4, k2tog. Repeat from * around. (30 sts)
Round 33: *K 3, k2tog. Repeat from * around. (24 sts)
Round 34: *K 2, k2tog. Repeat from * around. (18 sts)
Round 35: *K 1, k2tog. Repeat from * around. (12 sts)
Round 36: *K2tog. Repeat from * around. (6 sts)
Finish in one of these two ways:
1. Use tapestry needle to run yarn tail through the stitches and pull to close.
Weave in ends.
2. Optional I Cord Knot, start I Cord, k2, k2tog, k 2 for the first row only.
Knit 5 or 6 inch I Cord with the remaining 5 stitches.
Cut yarn leaving a 6 inch tail.
Use tapestry needle to run yarn tail through the stitches and pull to close. Now run yarn down the center of the I Cord.
Tie I Cord in a knot.
Weave in ends.
