St = stitch
Sl st = slip stitch
NOTES:
- Read pattern through before beginning.
- If you work over the beginning tail as instructed there is only one
tail to weave in.
- If you crochet loosely use a smaller hook.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Chain 60.
TAIL: 2 sc in the 2nd ch from hook, 2 sc each of next 11
chains (to create corkscrew effect); single crochet in each ch to the last 8
chs.
HEAD:
Row 1
(right side): Hdc in 2 chs, 2 dc dec over next 4 chs. Hdc in 1 ch, 3 sc in last ch. Working in the unused loop of starting ch and
over beginning tail, hdc in next st, 2 dc dec over next 4 sts. Hdc in next 2 sts, sl st in next st.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Skip 1 st, sc in next 13 head sts, sl st in
next st. Fasten off leaving about a 8
inch tail.
Using the tapestry needle and 8 inch tail, whip
stitch bottom of head closed by working through outside loops of row 2. Insert a small amount of polyfil in head
before closing completely.
Fasten off and weave in end.
FINISHING
With yarn needle pull red yarn through the sts on
bottom of the Snake’s head coming out near the center bottom. Glue in place. The easiest way to glue the tongue in place
is by running the yarn in for about an inch under the head. With about an inch protruding where you want
the tongue, spread glue on half of it and pull inside the head.
Glue on eyes.
Trim the tongue after the glue is dry.
