SNAKE BOOKMARK

SNAKE BOOKMARK


MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn small amount
Short piece of red yarn for tongue
Size G (4.5 mm) crochet hook
Polyfil (optional)
Wiggle eyes size 6mm

NOTES:
  1. Read instructions through before beginning.
  2. Head is worked from the inside.
  3. If you crochet loosely use a smaller hook.

ABBREVIATIONS:
Ch = chain
Sc = single crochet
Hdc = half double crochet
Sc2tog = single crochet 2 together a decrease
St = stitch


INSTRUCTIONS:

HEAD:
Ch 2

Round 1:  Working over the beginning tail, 6 sc in second ch from hook.

Do not join.

Round 2: Sc in back loop of each sts.

Note: the head is worked from the inside. 

Round 3: *Sc in back loop of next st, 2 sc in next st.  Repeat from * twice.  (9 sts)

Round 4-5: Sc in back loop of next sc. (9 sts)

Optional:  Put a very small amount of polyfil in head before finishing the sc2tog round.

Round 6: Sc2tog in back loop of next 2 sc, repeat 4 times.

TAIL:
Ch 40.  Slip stitch in 2nd ch from hook and next 3 chs.  Sc in 15 chs, hdc in each ch to the last 3 chs.  Sc in last 3 chs..  Fasten off leaving about a 6 inch tail.

Use the yarn tail to sew the tail evenly to the head and reinforce the neck.

FINISHING HEAD:
Weave the end of the beginning tail through the round 1 single crochets.  Pull beginning tail tight to close the nose. 

Choose the best looking side of the head and pull a piece of red yarn through the nose near the bottom of head and tie in a tight knot for the tongue.  Run one end of yarn back inside head so that only one tail is showing for tongue.  Cut about 1/2 inch long.


Glue wiggle eyes on round 3, leaving one sc free between the eyes.  (see photo for placement)
