WHO LOVES YA BABY

See cap without eyes at bottom of pattern.

WHO LOVES YA BABY CAP


SIZE: 
14 -16 (16-18, 18-22) inches

MATERIALS:         
Worsted weight yarn approximately 1.5 to 2 ounces
US size 9 (5.5 mm) 16 inch circular knitting needle
US size 9 (5.5 mm) double point needles
Marker
Cable needle or one of the above double point needles
Tapestry needle for yarn
Size 10 yellow crochet thread about 9 (10.5, 12) yards
US size 7 (1.5 mm) crochet hook
12 (14, 16) size 3 mm black pom-poms
Tapestry needle for size 10 thread
Black thread and needle
Aleene’s Ok to Wash It fabric glue (optional)

GAUGE:
Approximately 17 sts = 4 inches

NOTES:
  1. Read instructions all the way through before beginning cap.
  2. Caps in photo were knit with Red Heart Super Saver (4) Warm Brown.


SPECIAL STITCHES:

C4B: Slip next 2 sts purl wise to cable needle (or double point needle) and hold to back of work, K2, K2 from cable needle.

C4F:  Slip next 2 sts purl wise to cable needle (or double point needle) and hold to front of work, K2, K2 from cable needle.

C2B: Slip next st purl wise to cable needle (or double point needle) and hold to back of work, K1, K1 from cable needle.

C2F:  Slip next st purl wise to cable needle (or double point needle) and hold to front of work, K1, K1 from cable needle.

M1 = Make 1:  Pick up the bar between stitch just worked and the next stitch and knit it.  http://www.berroco.com/video/make_one.html


INSTRUCTIONS:
With 16 inch needle, cast on 54 (62, 72) sts. Join and work in the round.

Place marker to denote beginning of round.

CUFF:
Rounds 1-6:  *K1, P1.  Repeat from * across.  (54, 62, 72 sts)

BODY:
Round 7 (small and large sizes only):  *K9, M1.  Repeat from * around.  Remember that last M1.  (S - 60, L - 80 sts)

Round 7 (medium size only):  *(K8, M1) 3 times, K7, M1.    Repeat from * twice.  Remember that last M1.  (M - 70 sts)

Round 8: Purl around. (60, 70, 80 sts)

Round 9-10: *P2, K8.  Repeat from * around.  (60, 70, 80 sts)

Round 11: *P2, C4B, C4F.  Repeat from * around.  (60, 70, 80 sts)

Round 12-18: *P2, K8.  Repeat from * around.  (60, 70, 80 sts)

Round 19: *P2, C4B, C4F.  Repeat from * around.  (60, 70, 80 sts)

Round 20: *P2, K8.  Repeat from * around.  (60, 70, 80 sts)

Round 21-22: *P2, K1, P2, K2, P2, K1.  Repeat from * around.  (60, 70, 80 sts)

Round 23-24: *P2, K8.  Repeat from * around.  (60, 70, 80 sts)

Round 25: *P2, C4B, C4F.  Repeat from * around.  (60, 70, 80 sts)

Round 26: *P2, K8.  Repeat from * around.  (60, 70, 80 sts)

Round 27:  *P2, C2B, P1, K2, P1, C2F.  Repeat from * around.  (60, 70, 80 sts)

Knit until cap is approximately 4.75 (5.5, 6.0) inches from cast on edge. 

Begin decreases:  Switch to double points when necessary.

Dec Round 1: K5, K2tog, *K8, K2tog.  Repeat from * around to last 3 sts.  K3.  (54, 63, 72 sts)

Dec Round 2: K.  (54, 63, 72 sts)

Dec Round 3: K4, K2tog, *K7, K2tog.  Repeat from * around to last 3 sts.  K3.  (48, 56, 64 sts)

Dec Round 4: K.  (48, 56, 64 sts)

Dec Round 5: K3, K2tog, *K6, K2tog.  Repeat from * around to last 3 sts.  K3.  (42, 49, 56 sts)

Dec Round 6: K.  (42, 49, 56 sts)

Dec Round 7: K2, K2tog, *K5, K2tog.  Repeat from * around to last 3 sts.  K3.  (36, 42, 48 sts)

Dec Round 8: K1, K2tog, *K4, K2tog.  Repeat from * around to last 3 sts.  K3.  (30, 35, 40 sts)

Dec Round 9: K2tog, *K3, K2tog.  Repeat from * around to last 3 sts.  K3.  (24, 28, 32 sts)

Dec Round 10: K1, *K2, K2tog.  Repeat from * to last st.  K last st together with first st on next needle.  (18, 21, 24 sts)

Dec Round 11: *K1, K2tog.  Repeat from * around. (12, 14, 16 sts)

Dec Round 12: *K2tog.  Repeat from * around. (6, 7, 8 sts)

Cut yarn, weave end through remaining 6 (7, 8) sts. Draw tight and weave in end.

EYES:  (make 12, 14, 16)
With size 10 yellow crochet thread and US size 7 (1.5 mm) crochet hook
ch 3,  9 hdc in 3rd chain from hook

Fasten off leaving about a 6 inch tail for sewing eye to cap.

Sew eyes in place.

Sew pom-pom to center of each eye, or glue with Aleene’s Okay To Wash It

    Thank you for the pattern. I have made 2 hats one brown and one bieg. No buttons for eyes made small crochet eyes. The pattern was well written and easy to follow even for a beginner knitter like me.
