STAGGERED RIBS CAP


STAGGERED RIBS CAP
      

SIZE:  12-15 inches

MATERIALS:         
Worsted weight yarn approximately 1.25 ounce cap only
US size 10.5 (6.5 mm) 16 inch circular knitting needle
US size 10.5 (6.5 mm) double point needles
Tapestry needle
Marker

GAUGE:
Approximately 16 sts = 4 inches

INSTRUCTIONS:
With 16 inch needle, cast on 48 sts. Join and work in the round.

Place marker to denote beginning of round.
Round 1:  *K2, P2.   Repeat from * to marker.  (48 sts)

Repeat round 1 until cap measures 3 inches from cast on edge.

Round 2:  K

Round 3:  P

Rounds 4-5: *K2, P2.  Repeat from * around.

Round 6:  K

Round 7: P

Rounds 8-9:  *P2, k2.  Repeat from * around.



Repeat rounds 2-9 until cap measures about 7 inches from cast on edge, ending with round 3.

Begin decreases:  Switch to double points when necessary.

Dec Round 1:  *P2, K2, P2, K2tog.  Repeat from * around.  (42 sts)

Dec Round 2:  *P2, K2, P2, K1.  Repeat from * around.  (42 sts)

This is where I switch to double points.

Dec Round 3:  *K5, K2tog.   Repeat from * around.   (36 sts)


Dec Round 5:  *P4, P2tog.  Repeat from * around.  (30 sts)

Dec Round 6:  *P2tog, K1, P1, K1.  Repeat from * around.  (24 sts)

Dec Round 7:  *K1, P1, K2tog.  Repeat from * around.  (18 sts)

Dec Round 8:  *K1, K2tog.  Repeat from * around.  (12 sts)

Dec Round 9:  *p2tog.  Repeat from * around.  (6 sts)

Cut yarn, weave end through remaining 6 sts. Draw tight and weave in end.
