MATERIALS:
About 2.5 ounces worsted weight yarn
About 1 ounce contrasting yarn
Size I (5.5 mm) crochet hook
Tapestry needle
½ inch elastic 16 inches for smaller size, 18 inches for larger size
Small amount of thread and sewing needle
SPECIAL STITCHES:
Dc Foundation stitch = Ch 3 (doesn’t count as a dc), yarn over, insert hook in first ch and *pull up a loop. Yarn over, and pull through one loop (chain). Yarn over and pull through two loops twice (dc). You now have one foundation stitch. Yarn over and insert hook in ch of stitch just made. Repeat from * until you have desired number of stitches.
Here's a good video to show you how to do the Dc Foundation Stitch.
Scdec = Insert hook in next st, draw up a loop, (two loops on hook), insert hook in next st, draw up a loop (3 loops on hook), YO and draw through all 3 lps.
Fphdc = Front post hdc, YO, insert hook from front to back and to front again around the vertical post (upright part) of st, YO and draw yarn through, YO and complete hdc.
Bphdc = Back post hdc, YO, reaching over top of piece and working on opposite side (right side) of work, insert hook from right to left around vertical post of next st, YO and draw yarn through, YO and complete hdc.
Shell = Dc, ch 1, dc.
NOTES:
2. Diaper covers in photo crocheted with Lion Brand Pound of Love Lavender and Simply Soft Baby Brites Ombre.
3. When joining with a slipstitch pull the slipstitch tight.
4. To make the waistband adjustable, cut the elastic 2 inches shorter and sew about 8 inches of twill tape or ribbon to each end. Then crochet over the elastic, but leave the tape or ribbon ends loose at about the 28th stitch. Then you can tie the ends in a bow.
5. When working round 2 of ruffle, don’t worry if you end up with one more or fewer than 39 shells.
GAUGE: 7 sc = 2 inches

Oh sweet! Thank you so much for all that you share with us!
ReplyDeleteBe Blessed, AnitaE
Thank you so much for sharing your patterns. I am searching for "girly" patterns and this diaper cover is perfect.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea for a 'soaker'!!! Will have to make numerous for my 6 month old granddaughter!!!
ReplyDeleteI love this girly diaper cover. My dtr is 20 months. I would love to make one about a size 2T. Any chance you can help me with size adjustments? Thanks. princesspipersmama@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteSince kids begin to grow up more than out I think the 6 month size is proably big enough around. Measure her waist to decide how long you need the elastic.
ReplyDeleteThen you would just need to work a few more rounds (3 to 5) like round 13 before you begin the decrease rounds.
Good luck, let us know how it works out for you.
I am on just the first round and it looks so BIG to be a 0-3 months. Am I doing something wrong? It's a lot longer than my 16" elastic.
ReplyDeleteSo much depends upon the hook you use and your technique that is hard to say why it seems to large.
ReplyDeleteJust cute '''my daughter is having her first liitle girl and this is sooooooo cute.
ReplyDeleteI wish there were pictures. I cannot figure out your directions once you hit the ruffle. Can you explain this better?
ReplyDeleteMe too, I am totally stuck trying to start the ruffle. Why do the directions say to do each leg separately?
DeleteAm i supposed to turn the work after the foundation double crochet or work from right to left??
ReplyDeleteWhen a pattern says to join that means don't turn, to work in the round.
ReplyDeleteI thought the first round looked big too but once you get the elastic in place, it will give the waist band a slight gathered look. I hope this makes sense.
ReplyDeletesince I had a negative comment I guess it won't be published. I commented as anonymous . I'm the one that said the diaper cover the waist is too big the diaper cover itself is too small and I had major problems with the ruffle
ReplyDeleteI have just recently come across the chainless foundation and have had such a hard time understanding it for some reason. Your directions were so easy. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Glad they worked out for you.
