MAY FLOWERS HAT

SIZE: Woman’s (small and large)

GAUGE:
First 3 rounds = 4 inches (measured after round 4)

MATERIALS:
Worsted Weight approximately 3 ounces for hat
Small amount for flowers
7 or 8 5/8 inch buttons
Size US I (5.5 mm) crochet hook
Tapestry needle
Embroidery floss and needle for sewing flowers

NOTES:
1. Read instructions all the way through before beginning.
2. Pull joining slipstitches tight.
3. Flowers maybe either sewn to hat or glued. I like to sew them using a button for the center and embroidery floss for thread. It is best to sew the leaves on first and then top with your flowers. I sew on the leaves with a running stitch through the center of the leaf.

INSTRUCTIONS SMALL:

Round 1: Ch 4 and join with a slip stitch in first ch to form ring. Ch2 (do not count as first dc from now on) 12 dc in ring. Join with a slipstitch in first dc. (12 dc)
Round 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each st. Join with a slipstitch in first dc. (24 dc)
Round 3: Ch 2, (dc in next st, 2 dc in next st) repeat around. Join with a slipstitch in first dc. (36 dc)
Round 4: Ch 2, (dc in next 2 st, 2 dc in next) repeat around. Join with a slipstitch in first dc. (48 dc)

Round 5: Ch 2, (dc in 3 st, 2 dc in next) repeat around. Join with a slipstitch in first dc. (60 dc)

Rounds 6-7: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join with a slipstitch in first sc. (60 sc)

Round 20: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join in first sc. (80 sc)

Round 21: Ch 1, *sc in 7 sts, 2 sc in next st. Repeat from * around. Join in first sc. (90 sc)

Round 22: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join in first sc. (90 sc)

Round 23: Ch 1, sc in 4 sts, 2 sc in next st, *sc in 8 sts, 2 sc in next st. Repeat from * around. Sc in last 4 sts. Join in first sc. (100 sc)

Round 24: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join in first sc. (100 sc)

Fasten off and weave in ends.

FLOWER INSTRUCTIONS: (make 7 or 8)
Ch 4, join with a slipstitch to form a ring.

Round 1: Ch 1, 9 sc in ring, working over tail at the same time.. Join with slipstitch in first sc.

Round 2: Ch 3, 3 dc in same st as join, ch 2, slipstitch in next st.. *Ch 3, 3 dc in next st, chain 2, slipstitch in next st. Repeat from * 2 times. Ch 3, 3 dc in next st, chain 2. Fasten off without joining. (5 petals)

Use the tapestry needle to join end in first slipstitch.

Weave in ends.

DOUBLE LEAVES:
Leaving a 6 inch tail for sewing, ch 22. Work the following sts one in each ch. Slipstitch in 2nd st from hook, sc, hdc, 4 dc, hdc, sc, slipstitch in 3 ch, sc, hdc, 4 dc, hdc, sc, slipstitch.

Now work in the unused loops of ch, one st in each ch. Slipstitch in same st as last slipstitch, sc, hdc, 4 dc, hdc, sc, slipstitch in 3 chs, sc, hdc, 4 dc, hdc, sc, slipstitch. Do not join, fasten off and use your tapestry needle to finish off the end of leaf.

SINGLE LEAF:
Ch 11. Work the following sts one in each ch. Slipstitch in 2nd st from hook, sc, hdc, 4 dc, hdc, sc, slipstitch.

Now work in the unused loops of ch, one st in each ch. Slipstitch in same st as last slipstitch, sc, hdc, 4 dc, hdc, sc, slipstitch. Do not join, fasten off and use your tapestry needle to finish off the end of leaf.


FINISHING:
Attach leaves and flowers around hat centering on round 14 or 15 for larger size.

SUZIE’S GIRLY DIAPER COVER

SIZES:
0-3 months
3-6 months


MATERIALS:

About 2.5 ounces worsted weight yarn
About 1 ounce contrasting yarn

Size I (5.5 mm) crochet hook
Tapestry needle
½ inch elastic 16 inches for smaller size, 18 inches for larger size
Small amount of thread and sewing needle


SPECIAL STITCHES:

Dc Foundation stitch = Ch 3 (doesn’t count as a dc), yarn over, insert hook in first ch and *pull up a loop. Yarn over, and pull through one loop (chain). Yarn over and pull through two loops twice (dc). You now have one foundation stitch. Yarn over and insert hook in ch of stitch just made. Repeat from * until you have desired number of stitches.

Scdec =
Insert hook in next st, draw up a loop, (two loops on hook), insert hook in next st, draw up a loop (3 loops on hook), YO and draw through all 3 lps.


Fphdc =
Front post hdc, YO, insert hook from front to back and to front again around the vertical post (upright part) of st, YO and draw yarn through, YO and complete hdc.


Bphdc =
Back post hdc, YO, reaching over top of piece and working on opposite side (right side) of work, insert hook from right to left around vertical post of next st, YO and draw yarn through, YO and complete hdc.


Shell =
Dc, ch 1, dc.

NOTES:

1. Read instructions all the way through before beginning.
2. Diaper covers in photo crocheted with Lion Brand Pound of Love Lavender and Simply Soft Baby Brites Ombre.
3. When joining with a slipstitch pull the slipstitch tight.
4. To make the waistband adjustable, cut the elastic 2 inches shorter and sew about 8 inches of twill tape or ribbon to each end. Then crochet over the elastic, but leave the tape or ribbon ends loose at about the 28th stitch. Then you can tie the ends in a bow.
5. When working round 2 of ruffle, don’t worry if you end up with one more or fewer than 39 shells.

GAUGE: 7 sc = 2 inches

INSTRUCTIONS 0-3 MONTHS:
Before beginning prepare the 16 inch elastic by over lapping the ends by ½ inch and sewing securely.

WAISTBAND:

Round 1: Crochet a 72 st dc foundation row. Skip the chains and join with a slipstitch in first true dc. (72 sts)

Round 2: Ch 2 (doesn’t count as a dc), dc in join and each st around. Join with a slipstitch in first dc. (72 sts)

Round 3:
Drop the loop from your hook, hold the elastic against your first dc row. Fold the bottom dc row around the elastic. Insert your hook through the loop that is in front of your joining loop from the previous round, pick up the dropped loop and pull it through. Ch 1, sc through both layers matching the loops around, enclosing the elastic Join with a slipstitch in first sc.


Round 4:
Ch 1, 2 sc in same st as join., *Sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st. Repeat from * around. End with sc in 5 sts. Join with a slipstitch in first sc. (84 sts)

Rounds 5-9: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join with a slipstitch in first sc. (84 sts)

Round 10:
Ch 1, *scdec over next 2 sts, sc in next 12 sts. Repeat from * around. Join with a slipstitch in first sc. (78 sts)

Round 11:
Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join with a slipstitch in first sc. (78 sts)

Round 12: Ch 1, * sc in next 11 sts, scdec over next 2 sts. Repeat from * around. Join with a slipstitch in first sc. (72 sts)

Attach yarn with a sc in the slipstitch row. Work 21 sc in the side of sts, sc in next 17 sts. Join with a slipstitch in first sc. Fasten off. (39 sts)


Round 2: (Is worked across the outside leg sts, then folded between round 13 and 14 and the sts worked between the single crochets.) Attach contrasting yarn at join where body and crotch meet. Ch 4 (counts as first dc, ch 1), dc in same st as join. *Skip 1 st, shell in next st. Repeat from * around. Join with a slipstitch in 3rd ch of ch 4. (About 39 shells)

Round 3: Ch 4, *shell in ch 1 sp, ch 1, dc between shells, ch 1. Repeat from * around. Join with a slipstitch in 3rd ch of ch 4.

Round 4: Ch 4, dc between next 2 sts, *shell in shell, (ch 1, dc between next 2 sts) twice, ch 1. Repeat from * around. End with shell in shell. Join with a slipstitch in 3rd ch of ch 4.

3. When joining with a slipstitch pull the slipstitch tight.
4. To make the waistband adjustable, cut the elastic 2 inches shorter and sew about 8 inches of twill tape or ribbon to each end. Then crochet over the elastic, but leave the tape or ribbon ends loose at about the 28th stitch. Then you can tie the ends in a bow.

GAUGE: 7 sc = 2 inches

INSTRUCTIONS 0-3 MONTHS:
Before beginning prepare the 16 inch elastic by over lapping the ends by ½ inch and sewing securely.

SIZE: Garment measures 20 inches around

MATERIALS:

Approximately 3 ounces worsted weight yarn

Size US 10 (6.0 mm) circular needle

Markers

Tapestry needle


GAUGE: Approximately 4 sts to 1 inch


SPECIAL STITCHES:

M1: Make a backward loop and place on right hand needle.


Increase (inc) 1 st in next st: Knit into front and back of that stitch.


NOTES:
1. Read instructions all the way through before beginning.
2. I used a 29 inch circular needle.
3. Vest in photo was knit with Red Heart Super Saver Lavender.
